Do not assume the bed size

Georgetown does not publish one mattress specification that covers every assignment. Confirm it in the housing assignment or directly with Residential Living before ordering bedding.

Bed and room basics

Georgetown's undergraduate housing spans traditional halls, suites, apartments and townhouses, and first-year residences use different layouts from upperclass options. Some rooms share corridor bathrooms, some suites share a bathroom, and apartments or townhouses add kitchens along with the household responsibilities that come with them. University furniture must stay in the unit.

Residential Living identifies buildings where beds may be optionally bunked, and required configurations can differ. Wait for the assigned building and room information before buying risers, large under-bed storage, a headboard or a rug.

Pack these first

  • Bedding, once the size is confirmed for the assigned building
  • Towels, toiletries and a shower caddy where the bathroom is shared
  • Laundry supplies and hangers
  • A compliant power strip
  • Basic cleaning supplies

Rules and smart skips

  • The permitted appliance list depends on whether the unit has a kitchen, so read the current Residential Living handbook for the assigned unit type.
  • Coordinate refrigerators, cleaning supplies, bathroom items and kitchen equipment with roommates or suitemates.
  • Skip risers, large under-bed storage, a headboard and a rug until the room and bunking setup are known.

Before move-in

  • Use the current move-in appointment and the residence-specific route.
  • Bring identification and label belongings.
  • Pack for a limited unloading window.
  • Photograph the room and all provided furniture before unpacking.
  • Do not rely on old dates or traffic maps. Both change year to year.
