Why I built DormHQ
Short version: I got tired of doing this in 14 browser tabs, a group chat, and pure vibes.
Hi, I'm Ashley. I built DormHQ because I got volun-told into being the family move-in logistics department, and frankly, the tools available to me were embarrassing.
My daughter Kayla was headed to Georgia Southern, and I needed to plan. Not just a packing list, but who's buying the mattress topper, what size that mattress even is, what's already in the car versus still "on the way," what move-in day actually looks like hour by hour, and what she still needs once she's living there for real. I went looking for something that could hold all of that in one place.
Reader, it did not exist. What existed was a spreadsheet nobody updated, a Notes app list that got more chaotic by the day, seventeen open tabs, and a group text where "did you get the shower caddy??" went unanswered for four days.
So I built the thing I actually wished existed. One real command center for the whole family, where everyone can see what's packed, what's still needed, who's buying what, and what happens when move-in day actually shows up. No more mystery spreadsheets. No more "wait, did someone already buy this."
Kayla moved into Georgia Southern in August 2026, and building DormHQ around getting her there is what turned a personal headache into the thing you're using right now.
I've spent more than 15 years untangling complicated systems for B2B technology companies. Dorm move-in is a different kind of system, but it has the same problem: too many moving pieces and no single place to see what's actually happening.
DormHQ is what happens when a marketing-operations person looks at college move-in and decides the spreadsheet has had enough.

Want to check that I'm a real person? Fair. I'm on LinkedIn, and my marketing-operations work lives at ashleylangfordmarketing.com.
The two people this whole thing is for
The hay bale one is the photo we like best. That's me on top, Kayla standing next to it. The car selfie is the real thing: the drive to Georgia Southern on move-in day.
One very full car, a hand truck, and, for the first time, a checklist that lived in one place instead of fourteen tabs.
Planning a move-in of your own?
Skip the group chat chaos. Build your DormHQ and get everyone, parents, students, roommates, on the same actual list.
