University of Maryland, College Park
📍 College Park, MD
The quick take
Most Maryland residence halls use standard Twin mattresses, but several newer halls and houses use Twin XL.
Bed and room basics
Most beds are 36 x 75 x 6-inch Twin. Pyon-Chen, Johnson-Whittle, House 3, House 5, House 7, House 9 and House 10 use Twin XL bedding. Rooms also include a dresser and other hall-specific furniture. Standard under-bed clearance is about 10 inches before approved risers.
Pack first
Bring correct-size sheets, mattress cover and pad, towels, shower tote, laundry supplies, hangers, cleaning basics and an approved power strip. Square bed risers up to 12 inches are permitted where the bed and room allow.
Rules and smart skips
The approved MicroFridge Smoke Sensor combination is the only microwave allowed in an individual dorm room. Micromobility devices are restricted, and students should review the current prohibited-items list before packing.
Before move-in
- Confirm your building, room type and bed size.
- Coordinate shared appliances and cleaning supplies with roommates.
- Review the current arrival route and check-in time.
- Keep bedding, medication, toiletries and chargers easy to reach.
Twin and Twin XL are close cousins, not identical twins.
