The quick take

Iowa rooms use Twin XL mattresses and include the core furniture. The bed setup varies by room type, so confirm before ordering under-bed storage.

What is provided

Rooms generally include a bed, desk, dresser, closet, curtains, trash container and recycling container. Mattresses are 38 x 80 inches, which means Twin XL bedding.

Default bed configurations vary. Many doubles use high lofts, Mayflower doubles commonly use captain-style beds, triples may combine a loft and bunk, and quads may use two bunks. Parklawn commonly uses high captain-style beds. Submit a housing work order for approved changes rather than rearranging first and asking questions later.

Pack first

Twin XL sheets and mattress protector, pillows, towels, shower supplies, shower shoes, laundry gear, hangers, a fan, cleaning basics and an approved surge protector. Iowa weather has range, so do not let one sunny move-in day make all your clothing decisions.

Fridge and microwave notes

Mayflower and Parklawn, plus rooms with supplied kitchens, do not allow a personal refrigerator. In other eligible rooms, a shared refrigerator or microwave must meet the university's size and electrical limits. Coordinate with roommates before buying duplicates.

Before move-in

  • Review your hall and room layout.
  • Confirm the default bed configuration.
  • Coordinate large shared items.
  • Follow your assigned move-in time and unloading instructions.
