Quick take

Princeton is one of the few schools offering a Twin XXL at 36 by 84 inches for very tall students, in limited numbers by request. If that applies, sort it before buying sheets.

Bed and room basics

Princeton undergraduate rooms provide a Twin XL mattress measuring 36 by 80 by 7 inches on an adjustable bed, plus a dresser, desk and chair, a small bookcase, waste and recycling cans, and a closet or secured wardrobe. Room layouts, bathroom access, flooring and storage vary across the residential colleges, so the building assignment decides most of the shopping list.

Pack these first

  • Twin XL bedding, or Twin XXL if a 36-by-84-inch mattress was requested and granted
  • Towels, toiletries and a shower caddy where the bathroom is shared
  • Laundry supplies and hangers
  • Basic cleaning supplies
  • Compliant surge protection
  • A fan if the assigned residence has no air conditioning

Rules and smart skips

  • All university furniture, including bunk ladders and rails, must stay in the room.
  • Students may request mattress removal but then have to arrange storage for a personal mattress themselves.
  • Small refrigerators are allowed within current size and power limits. Heat-producing appliances, candles and incense are prohibited.
  • Hold off on a rug, large organizers, extra seating and shared appliances until the building and room type are known.

Before move-in

  • Students select a move-in time from the housing-assignment email.
  • Use the Theater Drive Garage destination and follow current signage.
  • Unload as directed, then move the personal vehicle off campus.
  • Confirm the assigned residential college, room type, air conditioning and the refrigerator rule before shopping.
