Bed and room basics

Bedding, furnishings and appliance provisions vary by building, so the assigned community page is the source of truth. The dorm bed size guide covers what to check once you have the number. One wired network port per bed is available, so an Ethernet cable can be useful.

Pack these first

• Sheets and a mattress pad in the confirmed size, plus pillows
• Towels, shower shoes and a caddy where needed, plus toiletries
• Laundry supplies and hangers
• Study supplies, chargers, an approved surge protector and an Ethernet cable
• Cleaning supplies, medication, first aid, rain gear and a compact emergency kit

Rules and smart skips

• Extension cords, multi-plug adapters, halogen or torch lamps, toasters and toaster ovens are prohibited.
• Countertop grills, portable heaters, open flames and appliances with exposed heating elements are not allowed.
• Use the current packing list and housing policies as the final authority.

Before move-in

• Read the current Fall Move-In Guide for dates, check-in, packing and traffic details.
• Follow the assigned unloading route. The move-in team may help transport belongings while the vehicle is moved to designated parking.
• Set up the ODU ID as instructed, since it provides residence hall access.
• Packages go through the designated university mail process.
