One cart is the packing test
Loyola asks students to pack lightly enough to fit everything in a single moving cart. It is a useful limit even before the assignment arrives.
Bed and room basics
Plan on Twin XL linens. Most undergraduate residence halls are associated with the Lake Shore Campus, while Baumhart Hall sits near the Water Tower Campus with separate check-in and mailing details. Apartment-style buildings may already include appliances and can prohibit personal mini-fridges, so wait for the assignment before buying storage or décor.
Pack these first
- Twin XL linens, pillows, a blanket and towels
- Toiletries, first aid and medication
- HE laundry supplies and hangers
- Study materials, chargers and an umbrella
- Approved surge protection
Rules and smart skips
- One mini-fridge up to 4.2 cubic feet is permitted per room, except where apartment-style rules prohibit it.
- One microwave up to 800 watts is allowed.
- Extension cords, halogen lamps, candles, incense, adhesive LED strips, window air conditioners and open-coil appliances are prohibited.
Before move-in
- Use the building-specific check-in zone and assigned time.
- Bring photo ID, travel in one vehicle where instructed, and unload before parking.
- Limit helpers to the university's current allowance.
- Review and submit the electronic room condition report before unpacking.
- Packages generally go through the designated mailroom rather than directly to the hall.
