Arizona State University
📍 Tempe, AZ
Quick take
ASU housing spans Tempe, Downtown Phoenix, Polytechnic and West Valley. Housing is tied closely to campus and academic community, and bed size can be Twin, Twin XL or full depending on the room. Check the assigned building before the sheets enter the cart.
Start with the campus and assignment
ASU is not a one-campus housing system. The student's campus, residential college or community, building and room style determine the useful details.
Use the official ASU housing site and the Housing Portal to confirm campus and residential community, building and room style, mattress size, bathroom arrangement, included kitchen or apartment features, and current move-in appointment and check-in location.
Campus matters
Tempe, Downtown Phoenix, Polytechnic and West Valley have different housing inventories. Build the list from the actual assignment, not from a friend's room on another ASU campus.
What ASU provides
ASU says residence-hall rooms include a bed, desk, desk chair, dresser, closet area and trash and recycling bins for each resident. Rooms have air conditioning, internet access and an Ethernet port. Complimentary washers and dryers are available in the residence halls.
Apartment and shared-house layouts can include additional living-room furniture, kitchen appliances or in-unit laundry. Confirm the specific community page before removing those items from the shopping list.
Bedding and room setup
ASU's current packing checklist says beds may be Twin XL, Twin or full size, depending on the room style.
- Confirm the mattress size on the assigned hall or community page.
- Add mattress depth and topper thickness before selecting fitted-sheet pocket depth.
- Do not bring a personal bed-lofting kit.
- ASU policy says lofting is not permitted unless the residential community provides the service.
The fitted sheet is not going to negotiate with the wrong mattress size.
What to pack first
- Bedding sized to the assigned mattress
- Mattress protector and optional topper
- Towels, toiletries and shower supplies matched to the bathroom style
- Laundry hamper and detergent
- Hangers and compact storage
- Small fan and desk lamp
- Approved surge protector
- Cleaning supplies appropriate for the room or apartment
ASU advises that a mini refrigerator must be under 4.0 cubic feet and a microwave must be under 700 watts. Fridges under 4 cu ft · 700-watt microwaves Review the assigned community's current rules before purchasing either.
What to leave home
ASU's current checklist and housing policies prohibit or restrict personal bed-lofting kits, open heating elements and many cooking appliances, personal wireless routers and printers, candles and wax melts, halogen lamps, non-UL-approved items, hoverboards and motorized scooters, and weapons or fireworks. This is not the complete policy list. Check the current housing rules before packing.
