Measure after you arrive
Every Dartmouth room is configured differently. The Room Assignment Notice includes roommates' contact information, so coordinate the large items and buy storage once you have seen the space.
Bed and room basics
Mattresses measure 36 by 80 inches and take Twin XL sheets. Room type, bathroom, kitchen, air conditioning and storage vary, and students may share with up to three others, so wait for the exact assignment before buying rugs, organizers, furniture or appliances.
Pack these first
- Twin XL bedding
- Towels and a shower caddy
- Laundry supplies
- A surge-protected power strip and low-wattage lighting
- Compact food storage
Rules and smart skips
- Two-wire extension cords, high-wattage halogen lamps, double-sided tape and adhesive gum are prohibited.
- A commercial UL-listed coffee maker with automatic shutoff is permitted under current guidance.
- Measure after arrival before adding furniture or storage.
Before move-in
- Use the Room Assignment Notice to reach roommates and coordinate large items.
- Follow the assigned arrival and key process.
- Pack for Hanover winter, but avoid sending everything at once.
